Thomas Heatherwick’s first condo tower stands out in Chelsea’s gallery neighborhood.
Lantern House is located at 515 West 18th in the heart of the uber-cool Chelsea High Line art gallery neighborhood. The two-tower development straddles the High Line, creating a new architectural focal point with its Millenium Falcon-esque bay windows (reportedly a reinterpretation of local, historic brownstone windows) that echo the Vessel sculpture in nearby Hudson Yards. This property is the latest starchitect piece in developer Related Companies’ far west side collection, joining 520 West 28th Street by the late Zaha Hadid and the residential towers at Hudson Yards.

Related Companies commissioned the Lantern House in 2015 and the building was completed in 2020, with SLCE as the architect of record. Unit asking prices range from $1.4M to $19.98M.
Drawing from Chelsea’s rich industrial history, the building fuses sturdy brick with refined finishes. Global interior design firm March and White Design (MAWD) designed the homes with a focus on the health, wellness, and technology of every project. Heatherwick Studio and MAWD won NYCxDesign’s award for Large Multi-Unit Housing for this project.
The 22-story building has 181 units made up of one, two, three, and four-bedroom residences, most of which have uninterrupted cityscape and Hudson River views.
Amenities include a 75-foot long swimming pool, a stone pool deck including a cold plunge pool, a hot tub, and “experiential” shower, chaise lounges and travertine niches with custom benches, two co-ed cedar-lined saunas, changing rooms for men and women, a treatment room for a host of spa treatments and services, fitness center, co-working room, a library, a game/media room, and a garden.
